Grungy Boots And Gloves

I made Una's boots from strips of suede which I dyed dark red. The suede was flexible enough so that the foot could still bend easily and the material kept its form. I cut them to the right size and glued them on her feet, building up the boots in layers, trying to get the layers to resemble how a real boot would be constructed. I started with the tongue, then a strip to form the flaps that run either side of the tongue (where the eyelets go), then a trip going round the entire base of the boot, before putting a thin strip to form the tread over the top. Lastly I wrapped a strip round her ankles forming the cuff. I wanted them to look worn and grungy, so I wrinkled up the material in areas and scruffily wrapped the strips round her ankles to form the upper part of the boot. I threaded some black cotton through the boots with a needle, to create the laces. I stitched them in the criss cross pattern, to resemble how real laces would be tied. I tied the laces in a bow, and wow that was fiddly! Took a few attempts but I got there!

The gloves were made from strips of an old dress. I wrapped them round the hands as I wanted a grungy look to the gloves. The first glove turned out a lot better than the second, the way that the material is wrapped just seems to resemble a real glove far more than the second.
